The image of Chaplin standing in the doorway came from the American poster, but it wasn’t casting a shadow. I just wanted all that light to be used to draw the image into the poster. This was in the days before Photoshop was the industry standard for this kind of thing, so I commissioned an artist to paint my idea into the pre-existing image.
